Practice policies
The practical agreements, in plain language.
These are the working arrangements of the practice. They're also explained in person at your first session, and you can ask about any of them at any time.
Fees and payment
The initial consultation is 80 minutes ($250) and standard consultations are 50 minutes ($220), payable on the day. EFTPOS and bank transfer. Current fees and Medicare rebate details are always published on the fees page; any fee change is notified well in advance and never applied mid-referral without discussion.
Cancellations and non-attendance
We understand that unexpected circumstances can arise. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, we kindly ask that you provide as much notice as possible. Appointments cancelled or rescheduled with more than 24 hours' notice will not incur a cancellation fee. Appointments cancelled, rescheduled or not attended with less than 24 hours' notice will incur a 50% cancellation fee of the scheduled appointment cost.
As a 50% fee, that is $125 for an initial consultation and $110 for a standard consultation. Appointment times are reserved specifically for you, and late cancellations can be difficult to fill when other clients may be waiting. Medicare rebates do not apply to cancellation fees.
Confidentiality and its limits
Sessions are confidential. Information is only shared with your written consent, or in the narrow circumstances the law requires of every Australian psychologist: where there is a serious and imminent risk of harm to you or another person, where records are subpoenaed by a court, or where disclosure is otherwise mandated (for example, mandatory reporting obligations concerning the safety of children). Wherever possible, any such step is discussed with you first. A fuller plain-language explanation is on the What to Expect page.
Records
Psychologists are required to keep accurate clinical records. Records at this practice are stored securely, retained for the legally required period, and handled as described in the privacy policy. You may request access to your records at any time.
Contact between sessions
You're welcome to email or call about practical matters like appointments, referrals and paperwork, and I'll respond within one business day. Email and voicemail aren't monitored continuously and aren't suited to matters that can't wait; if you need support urgently between sessions, please use the crisis services listed in the footer of every page, or attend your nearest emergency department.
Telehealth
Telehealth sessions are held by secure video link. You'll need a private space, a reliable connection, and a device with a camera. If the connection fails we switch to phone, and if technology defeats us entirely the session is rescheduled without penalty. Telehealth isn't clinically suitable in every situation; if that's ever the case, I'll discuss it with you and we'll plan accordingly. Telehealth is available to both new and existing clients, at the same fee as in-person sessions
Respect and safety
Therapy works best in mutual respect, and this practice is committed to being a safe, non-judgemental space for people of every background, culture, body, gender and sexuality. The same respect is asked in return, toward the practitioner and anyone sharing the waiting area.
Feedback and concerns
If something about the service concerns you, please raise it. Directly, if you feel able, because it will be received without defensiveness. You are also always entitled to contact the Psychology Board of Australia / AHPRA on 1300 419 495 or via ahpra.gov.au.
