Fees & Rebates
Medicare rebates
A Medicare rebate of $101.55 is available with a valid GP referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan.
- Out-of-pocket costs
- Initial consultation: $148.45 after Medicare rebate
- Standard consultation: $118.45 after Medicare rebate
Medicare figures are indexed and change from time to time (most recently 1 July 2026); the amounts above were last verified on 1 July 2026 (figures supplied by practitioner). For eligible clients, the Medicare rebate is processed immediately after your appointment. Telehealth sessions attract the same fees.
Why this fee
The Australian Psychological Society's National Schedule of Suggested Fees (2026–2027) recommends $330 for a standard 46–60 minute consultation. Zana believes quality psychological care should be as accessible as possible, so the fee here is intentionally set below the APS recommended rate. Being upfront about that comparison matters here: cost is one of the most common reasons people put therapy off, and it shouldn't be a guessing game.
Medicare, step by step
How the rebate works
-
1. See your GP
Book a longer appointment and tell them you'd like to talk about your mental health. If therapy is appropriate, your GP prepares a Mental Health Treatment Plan and a referral letter. These are two separate documents. You need both, and the referral can name Bayview Psychology.
-
2. Bring the referral
Send the referral through before your first session or bring it along. From then on, Medicare refunds $101.55 of each session's fee. Referrals are typically issued in blocks, commonly up to 6 sessions, after which you see your GP for a brief review before further sessions.
-
3. Pay, then get the rebate
You pay the full fee on the day, and the rebate comes back to you. For eligible clients, the Medicare rebate is processed immediately after your appointment. Medicare currently rebates up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year.
Private appointments
You are welcome to book an appointment privately without a GP referral.

Cancellations & rescheduling
If your plans change
We understand that unexpected circumstances can arise. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, we kindly ask that you provide as much notice as possible.
Appointments cancelled or rescheduled with more than 24 hours' notice will not incur a cancellation fee. Appointments cancelled, rescheduled or not attended with less than 24 hours' notice will incur a 50% cancellation fee of the scheduled appointment cost:
- Initial consultation: $125 cancellation fee
- Standard consultation: $110 cancellation fee
Appointment times are reserved specifically for you. Late cancellations can be difficult to fill, particularly when other clients may be waiting for an available appointment. This policy allows us to respect your allocated time while continuing to provide appointments to those seeking support.
Whenever you're ready
Whether you're ready to book an appointment, have a question, or simply want to know more about how therapy can support you, we welcome you to get in touch.
