The approaches

How would therapy actually help?

Fair question. When you are worn out, "talking about it" can feel difficult to imagine. Therapy provides a space to understand your experiences, explore what is keeping you stuck and develop strategies tailored to your needs.

At Bayview Psychology, evidence-based approaches are used to support different concerns, with each approach explained in plain language.

Understanding Thoughts

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Works on the loop between thoughts, feelings and behaviour. You learn to catch the thinking patterns that drive distress, test them against reality, then change the responses that keep the cycle going.

Often used for Anxiety, depression, panic, OCD, health anxiety, sleep and stress.

Living by Your Values

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Helps you create space from difficult thoughts and emotions, while building the skills to move towards what matters most to you.

Often used for Chronic worry, burnout, life transitions, pain and perfectionism.

Finding Your Own Reasons

Motivational Interviewing (MI)

Helps you explore what matters most to you, overcome barriers to change and build the motivation to create healthier habits and behaviours.

Often used for Alcohol and substance use, eating patterns, health and habit change.

Building on What Works

Solution Focused Therapy (SFT)

Helps you identify your strengths, set meaningful goals, solve problems and create practical steps towards positive change.

Often used for Goal setting, decision points, brief focused work and momentum.

Focusing on the Here and Now

Mindfulness

Mindfulness involves learning to stay present and aware of your thoughts, feelings and surroundings in the moment. It helps reduce being caught up in the past or future, allowing you to experience life with greater awareness.

All approaches used at Bayview Psychology are evidence-based and individually tailored to each person's goals, strengths and circumstances.
